Princeps Lunae

Here’s the second piece I submitted to the Hub Comics In the Name of the Moon! Sailor Moon art show.

I’ve always loved the religious imagery in Sailor Moon. Especially in Sailor Moon S, but that’s a whole other thing and we’d be here for five years if were to start talking about that. Serenity herself is an embodiment of the Greek moon goddess. I painted this in reference to paintings of praying Catholic saints, with the Ginzuishou taking the place of a rosary.

The idea evolved over time and became a lot simpler than what I originally had planned. But I definitely prefer it that way. Serenity’s power is simple in how immense it is.
